Public Health Dentistry is the specialty of dentistry that promotes oral health as well as the prevention and control of dental diseases. The Department of Public Health Dentistry today stands at the cross roads of time with a very innovative future ahead. The department takes pride in being the only specialty in dentistry which forms the first level of contact with the community and works at a grass root level to address the oral health related problems. We coordinate our work keeping in mind the principles of primary health care by conducting various dental camps. The services are provided irrespective of any differentiation with the community participation and various sectors involved in the same. True to its name the department, additionally works to utilize the available resources and directs its efforts towards screening programs and surveys to get a right grasp of the current oral health issues so that proactive measures can be taken at an interdisciplinary level and a direction can be given for future research.
The Department of Public Health Dentistry prides itself on providing outstanding teaching and learning facilities meticulously tailored for the BDS course. With a team comprising three dedicated teaching faculties and supplemented by a non-teaching staff member, our department is unwaveringly committed to cultivating a conducive learning environment of the highest standard.
Under the esteemed leadership of Dr. Anzil KS Ali, who serves as the Head of the Department, our faculty brings a wealth of expertise to the forefront. Dr. Anzil’s distinguished background, encompassing an MBA and an MSC in Psychology, adds a unique dimension to our approach towards dental education and public health initiatives. Supported by Dr. Rajani ER, a seasoned senior lecturer holding an MPH and a PhD in Public Health, our department stands as a beacon of excellence in both research and community engagement.
Bolstered by a suite of amenities, including 10 dental chairs, our facility offers abundant opportunities for practical training, ensuring our students are equipped with invaluable hands-on experience. Furthermore, our research incubation center serves as a nucleus for pioneering exploration and discovery, while our dental museum provides a rich educational experience through an array of visual aids and historical context. Notably, our tobacco cessation clinic underscores our unwavering dedication to promoting oral health and confronting public health challenges head-on.

In addition to the BDS curriculum, our department offers a value-added course in palliative care training for interns.
